Stoop Gallery is a 1:12-scale outdoor miniature gallery modeled after a storefront, designed with durable, weatherproof materials and LED lighting to showcase rotating exhibits of miniature paintings, sculptures, and other art forms. Gallery events during ArtX weekend include an opening reception, artist talk, and tiny painting workshop.

This workshop cultivates both individual expression and communal resonance—literally and metaphorically. Through guided exercises in listening, vocalization, and movement, and a culminating public performance, participants discover how sound resonates not only in spaces, but between people, creating unique sonic textures that emerge from group interaction. Participants will leave with heightened awareness of their sonic environment, confidence in their voice, and an understanding of sound as a medium for human connection.

An outdoor, participatory song circle inviting passersby to join in singing easy-to-learn songs. Rather than a performance, the emphasis is on shared music-making through simple harmonies, call-and-response songs, and playful movement through the space, creating a welcoming, instant musical community for people of all ages and musical backgrounds.

Lengyel & Canyon Movement Company’s Native Flowers Dance for the Flower Moon

A dance to pay homage to the full moon of May. Accompanied by live music, the goddesses of spring and summer present native flowers of Flagstaff as offerings to the rising moon. A real (or pretend based on fire restrictions) “bonfire” is fueled by petals and their sweet aromas. The viewers become a part of the experience as they approach the stage before or after the performance to learn about some of the native plants of Flagstaff and their ethnobotanical and medicinal uses. Audience members are encouraged to join the dance ritual by throwing petals provided in baskets along the stage. Herbal and floral teas are provided for consumption during the educational portion of the event. Audience members are taught to make flower crowns.

Passersby are engaged in a brief game in exchange for a poem dispensed from gumball machines; one for adults, another for children. Participants are invited to share: a word I’ve never heard, a fact I do not know, or a few bars of a song they haven’t sung in a while to be given a quarter for the gumball machine.

A sculpture fabricated from various metals. An old engine block is the focal point with various sculptural inputs and outputs inviting us to reflect on the importance of education and curiosity in generating new ideas, creativity, and innovation.

Bryan Cooperrider’s Flagstaff Incursion throughout downtown

17 found-art sculptural items will be placed within walking distance of downtown Flagstaff. Equipped with maps, participants are invited to walk and find the various hidden art creatures. Participants who find all of them will be awarded with an artist designed sticker.

Chris Johnson’s Pedal Powered Projections

A roving projection-mapping performance that blurs the line between public space, cinema, and ecological storytelling. It will transform downtown Flagstaff into a moving canvas of endangered species, surreal landscapes, and climate-inspired visions.

Neal Galloway’s Tin Can Conversations

A series of mixed-media sculpture use the central motif of a tin-can telephone in order to guide viewers toward contemplation, connection, and play. Two tin cans, connected via a simple taut string, transmit sounds from one place to another. The numerous sculptures seek to display and disrupt this communication device in a variety of ways, investigating individual habits and the social structures which inhibit our ability to connect with one another.

Half relief sculpture and half interactive pieces, this paper mache project discusses the limited access to reliable knowledge and the rise of anti-intellectualism in the public. This project communicates, without words, the increased difficulty of accessing reliable information, and the joy in the pursuit of further knowledge through hands-on research.

9:30–11:30am: Science Saturday: Pollination Celebration – Join us for an extra special Science Saturday to celebrate the importance of pollinators – the bees, bats, birds, and so many others that form the foundation of our ecosystems! Through art projects, demonstrations, and activities, you and your family will learn about the critical role pollinators play in the world around us.
 
1:00–5:00pm: ‘Make a Pollinator Mask’ Community Workshop – Celebrate the importance of pollinators! From bats to butterflies and bugs, you’ll have a chance to help tell a visual story of some of our most important ecological allies. Participants will help assemble and decorate a variety of pollinator masks alongside Willow Bend staff. Because of the detailed crafting involved, this workshop is best suited for older teens and adults, though youth are welcome with adult supervision. The Lost Birds: An Extinction Elegy at Coconino Center for the Arts

Passions for music, birds, and the environment intersect in an educational & inspirational performance of Christopher Tin’s Grammy-winning music, “The Lost Birds.” Voices of 55 singers combine with a 25-person chamber orchestra in an outdoor, evening concert, accompanied with educational programming on birds in Northern Arizona and environmental conservation.

e Bibliotrail: Living Library at Buffalo Park

Buffalo Park becomes a living library in this 2.1-mile walk where participants encounter more than ten stations of literary art, including: spoken-word performances,live music, a ten-minute play, maker spaces where participants can make tiny books, poetry broadsides, free book giveaways, and collaborative writing projects that will result in a crowdsourced Bibliotrail poem. Visitors will read, listen, and create while in motion, turning the trail into an open-air gallery of sound and story. The event will embrace McMillan Mesa as its co-creator, inviting weather, wildlife, and walkers to shape a shared, ephemeral experience.

This project focuses on Arizona’s musical history, a rich and often overlooked story that is surprisingly easy to connect with. Through live music, storytelling, and participation, we invite people into traditions that grew right here across communities in the 1800s and early 1900s. Step into Arizona’s musical past through a lively interactive performance with fiddle and guitar, featuring stories, history, and opportunities to join in.
