Art + Ideas Experience
ARTx is an annual, accessible community opportunity to engage with the arts in an immersive and interactive way.
Creative Flagstaff is pleased to announce the continuation of ARTx: Art + Ideas Experience in 2026, thanks to $125,000.00 in funding from the City of Flagstaff’s Bed, Board and Beverage sales tax revenue. The 2026 biennial event returns to a multi-day, multi-disciplinary array of arts performances, exhibitions, activations, conversations, and celebrations May 1 – 3, 2026 with additional opportunities to participate and enjoy ARTx throughout the year coinciding with First Friday ArtWalk and other engagements.
ARTx is soliciting individual artists, collaborations and/or organizations interested in exploring their creative ideas as part of this year’s events. The call for submissions invites site-specific proposals, partnering creatives with predetermined opportunities, venues, and events, along with an open proposal submission system.
What is ARTx?
ARTx provides a platform for local and national artists, creatives, and thinkers, to share stories of their lived experiences.
ARTx: Art + Ideas Experience is a biennial celebration that transforms Flagstaff into a vibrant hub for creativity and connection. Through performances, exhibitions, installations, and conversations, ARTx invites artists, creatives, and community members to engage with new ideas and experience art in unexpected ways.
Rooted in accessibility and collaboration, ARTx brings creativity into public spaces and everyday moments, sparking dialogue and inspiring connection across the community. Each project is designed to be engaging, inclusive, and place-based—meeting people where they are and inviting them to see their surroundings in a new light.
With a focus on building shared experiences, ARTx expands the reach of the arts, encourages fresh perspectives, and celebrates the diverse cultural landscape of Flagstaff.

We are proud of past ARTx projects and hope they continue to inspire the community to engage and participate in arts + culture. These include, but are in now way limited to the following examples:
- grand piano under the full moon at Buffalo Park open space (Rising of the Flower Moon)
- modern rock opera about indigenous black footed ferrets (Pop Goes The Ferret)
- concert of robot percussionists and light show ([un]certainty)
poetry inspired by art from MNA’s collection, displayed on Mountain Line busses (Poetry Maps) - a golden cloud of aspen leaves installed in the historic Nackard Pepsi warehouse, reflecting on fires and flooding in Flagstaff (ENVISION)
- The shape, color, and energy of artx is rooted in the submissions for events, activities, and installations each cycle. the inclusion of satellite exhibitions increases accessibility and engagement for all .
ARTx is a program of Creative Flagstaff and serves to fulfill its mission to foster creative opportunity. The structure continues to evolve and be shaped by the participants and audiences in each iteration. ARTx highlights philanthropy and corporate support for arts and culture, gets the community involved, focuses collaborative and interdisciplinary energy, and leaves a lasting and positive impact on the community, year after year.
