Our New Mission: To Foster Creative Opportunity

At Saturday’s 12th Annual Viola Awards, Flagstaff Arts Council unveiled its new mission statement…

…to foster creative opportunity alongside a new vision statement that Flagstaff is a vibrant creative community at the intersection of art and science.

Board President Karl Eberhard introduced the mission statement as the “simplest and most purposeful mission statement that we’ve ever had.”

He expanded upon the Board’s reasoning for adopting the new mission and vision statement which was the culmination of two community meetings, three board retreats, and 200 surveys collected:

We want to share with the more than 500 of you, at the biggest celebration of art, science, and culture of the year, our progress on laying the foundation for the next 20 years. Through all of our engagement, we came to believe that we are inspired to create and that in Flagstaff, that manifests itself in many ways – in both art and science. We also learned that many of you believe passionately that art and science enrich each other. Flagstaff Arts Council fosters creative opportunity. This statement embodies the arts council’s purpose: connecting people and creative experiences, and fostering partnerships. It also reflects a strong desire to promote cultural equity within the creative sector and to use creativity as a vehicle to build a more cohesive and collaborative community.”
