Flagstaff Artist Darcy Falk Chosen as Creator of 2021 Viola Awards

Flagstaff artist Darcy Falk is chosen as the 2021 Viola Awards Artist. Falk begun production on the awards which will be given to the winners at the 13th Annual Viola Awards on Friday, June 18th.

Each year, we gather to honor the significant achievements of Flagstaff’s creative community at the Viola Awards. This year’s awards will recognize nearly 50 finalists across 9 categories including Excellence in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Music, Storytelling, STEAM, Education, Community Impact, and Emerging Artist. The Viola Awards will also be honoring Nat White and Dr. Edith Copely as this year’s Legacy Award recipients.

Falk’s inspiration for the awards was the interconnectedness of the arts, science, and cultural organization in Flagstaff. In her proposal she wrote “…we share resources: finances, venues, and volunteers. We rely on the cross-pollination of ideas to create our work, and that’s part of what makes Flagstaff unique.” The awards reflect this; Falk created a large textile collage, cut that collage into equal sections, then individually refined, stitched, and finished each of the twelve awards.
