Nominations for the 13th Annual Viola Awards are Open

The 13th Annual Viola Awards, set to take place on Saturday, March 27, 2021, will recognize artists, educators, organizations and leaders who make positive contributions to the arts, sciences, and culture in Flagstaff.

2020 has been a year of uncertainty. Flagstaff’s creative sector met the challenges of this year and demonstrated incredible resilience while doing so. The 13th Annual Viola Awards, set to take place on Saturday, March 27, 2021, will recognize artists, educators, organizations and leaders who make positive contributions to the arts, sciences, and culture in Flagstaff. Nominations are being accepted until December 31, 2020.

The Arts Council invites you to submit nominations based on what work made a significant contribution to the creative community in 2020. The categories below do not reflect the final list of awards categories for the 13th Annual Viola Awards. The final list of awards categories will be determined by the number and quality of submissions for each category.

Pandemic shutdowns began just days after the 2020 Viola Awards. The categories are familiar but the kinds of nominations will likely vary widely as our creative community adapted to the pandemic. “Excellence” may take on a new definition this year as we collectively learned live streaming, social distancing, and taking to social media to share our stories and experiences. Excellence isn’t just about the final product, but the learning and perseverance that is demonstrated.

The 13th Annual Viola Awards will be an unprecedented and welcome celebration as we are hopefully beginning to gather as a community again.
